John Paul II Foundation for the New Evangelization seeks to give glory to God through mission-driven parishes working together.

  • To facilitate the equipping of Parish Evangelization Leader candidates. This is accomplished in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

  • To facilitate the empowerment of Parish Evangelization Leader candidates. An intensive pastoral formation in collaboration with other organizations prepares them for the collaborative responsibility of fostering and sustaining a parish culture of intentional discipleship and evangelization.

  • To employ competent and passionate Parish Evangelization Leaders certified by the Archbishop of Los Angeles and commissioned to qualifying parishes. With the Pastor and his leadership team, the Parish Evangelization leader directs the formation of all parishioners as missionary disciples.

JP2FNE Moving Forward to Equip, Empower and Employ Parish Evangelization Leaders

“Look to the future with commitment to a New Evangelization, one that is new in its ardor, new in its methods, and new in its expression” (St. John Paul II, Address to the Latin American Bishops).”

Inspiring and Connecting Missionary Disciples

Inspired by our Patron’s call to a New Evangelization, John Paul II Foundation for the New Evangelization, a nonprofit organization, has been led by the Spirit to keep moving forward since its launching at the New Evangelization Summit on May 13, 2017.  The New Evangelization Connection at Our Lady of Grace, Encino (July 11 to August 15) as well as the June 27th “by invitation only” session which preceded it drew missionary disciples from many different parishes.  Each week, they were inspired by some of the best leaders in the New Evangelization today.   The animated small group conversations that followed video presentations connected the Catholic evangelizers with each other.  NEC participants were equipped and inspired for the work of evangelization—a little taste of the formal equipping and empowerment of Parish Evangelization Leaders.

Collaboration with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

At an October 20, 2017 meeting with Auxiliary Regional Bishop Joseph V. Brennan and Fr. James Clarke, Archdiocesan Director of New Evangelization, John Paul II Foundation for the New Evangelization committed to collaborate with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in its efforts to build mission-driven parishes.  Beginning in the San Fernando Region, JP2FNE will serve qualifying parishes through its mission of equipping, empowerment and employment of parish evangelization leaders (PEL’s).

Equipping Potential Parish Evangelization Leaders

JP2FNE is committed to the equipping of Catholics who are called and gifted to become Parish Evangelization Leaders.  Formation towards PEL Certification will begin with the Basic Faith Formation followed by specialization in Evangelization rooted in sound Catholic biblical and theological foundations to be offered by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Response to the Call

Over the months since the launching of JP2FNE, a number of event participants have offered their time and talents to help fulfill the vision of JP2FNE.   Team formation has begun organically by the sharing of life and conversion stories intertwined with the mission of JP2FNE.  A few have expressed interest in becoming Parish Evangelization Leaders.

Empowerment of Potential PEL’s

As part of their initial formation, potential Parish Evangelization Leaders will be empowered through spiritual formation and leadership training.   The process will include retreats, conferences, media resources, mentoring and immersion in a mission-driven parish.

Commissioning PEL’s to Qualifying Parishes

Beginning in the San Fernando Region, JP2FNE hopes to commission, with the Regional Bishop, Parish Evangelization Leaders to serve at qualifying parishes (qualifying because they cannot afford to hire someone qualified for this role and because the parish leadership is committed to the mission of evangelization).

The PEL will direct, with the Pastor and his leadership team, the formation of parishioners as Missionary Disciples of Christ.   Together, they will ensure that every aspect of the parish supports the goal of forming missionary disciples and building a mission-driven parish.  JP2FNE will pay each commissioned Parish Evangelization Leader a monthly salary.

Ultimately, John Paul II Foundation for the New Evangelization seeks to give glory to God our Father through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior in the power of the Holy Spirit through mission-driven parishes uniting together for evangelization initiatives.

Response to Pope Francis’ Invitation

Inspired by St. John Paul II’s call for a New Evangelization, JP2FNE likewise responds to Pope Francis’ invitation:  “I invite everyone to be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of evangelization in their respective communities… I encourage everyone to apply the guidelines found in this document generously and courageously, without inhibitions or fear”. (Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel).

Prayer Warriors on Duty

Members of the JP2FNE team agree that for the work of the New Evangelization to be fruitful, the first step is intercessory prayer. JP2FNE is conducting a campaign for Intercessors for the New Evangelization.  The campaign started with the distribution of thousands of “Prayer for the Church” cards and enlisting individual prayer warriors as well as various prayer groups to pray for the Church.  To join the network, go to parishevangelizationleaders.org/network_of_intercessors/
